Captain Leon steals the show here, and Tressa's wide-eyed naivety is rather adorable. There are good moments, but I felt it was the weakest of the eight. I didn't love Tressa's story much at all. 5/5Ĭhapter One (Boss: Mikk and Makk): I'll be honest out of the gate. It was also probably the best use of Cyrus' path action, what with investigating all the books. I love how twisted Cyrus' story is! The boss felt really fresh with the 30 armor, which is impressive for a chapter four. Lucia's attitude while Cyrus is waxing poetic was fantastic, and her transformation was rather horrific. I loved the location, as well as the mystery that has slowly been unraveling (and will presumably play a role in post-game). One of the better chapters in the whole game. 4.5/5Ĭhapter Four (Boss: Lucia): Now we're talking. Really, the standout here is the boss and the dungeon. Therese's involvement was very sweet, and I enjoy her relationship with the totally oblivious Cyrus.

I love the atmosphere in this chapter, and it's one of the few times in the games where the dungeon (sewers), rather than just the boss, really stuck with me. The boss is strong, though nothing special. The mystery is super fun to solve with his scrutinizing, and he's just a really fun character to interact with. I love the darkness he's fighting against throughout the whole story. 2.5/5Ĭhapter One (Boss: Russell): Cyrus' story gets off to a wonderfully twisted start with this chapter. After a very strong chapter three, this was a little bit of a letdown. The boss was fun, if rather easy (though I was extremely over-leveled and had some secret jobs). The flashbacks seemed a little forced to me, but it was all in support of the faith/life/death themes of her story. 4/5Ĭhapter Four (Boss: Mattias): Oh my gosh Lianna is so obnoxious, I mean come on girl.

The boss, though seemingly random, comes full circle in chapter four, and was the best duo boss in the game for me. The betrayal of Lianna was honestly surprising to me, and it felt suitably dramatic. The exploration of faith was well-handled, and the missing child story felt like what chapter two should have been.

1.5/5Ĭhapter Three (Boss: Mystery Man and Shady Figure): This is where Ophilia's story really opened up for me. The scaling armor and multiple actions per turn was fresh at the time, and it actually managed to kill me once. Though, the boss was, for me, the first true challenge the game presented. It did a decent job of further developing Ophilia's values and ideals, but didn't seem very relevant to her greater story at all. 3/5Ĭhapter Two (Boss: Hrodvitnir): Absolutely one of the weaker chapters in the whole game, story-wise. Shout-out to Flamesgrace for being arguably the most aesthetically pleasing opening town, as well as the beautiful town theme. The boss was enjoyable, if simple, though that is the case for most chapter one bosses.

Obligatory, 'This is my opinion,' statement.Ĭhapter One (Boss: Guardian of the First Flame): This was a solid opening chapter to Ophilia's character that did a good job of establishing her motivations and values. I might get to it eventually, but I am rather satisfied with the journey I took. I have not played the final post-game content.

I thought it would be fun to give my thoughts on each chapter and maybe give a top 10 at the end. I just reached the credits to this beautiful game, having completed all 32 main story chapters.
